Inter Coach Roberto Mancini isn’t giving up on the Champions League – “wait until the end”.

The Nerazzurri lost at Genoa in midweek, leaving the race for third-place firmly in the hands of Roma, who have a seven point advantage with just four rounds remaining.

“We have to wait until the end,” Mancini told reporters in his Press conference ahead of the Udinese game.

“Then we’ll see where we’re starting from. I think the biggest problem is that we haven’t scored enough, and we have to improve in that regard.

“That’s football, it can happen. We take certain things for granted, we never thought we’d get so few goals from our strikers.

“These are very strange situations, we don’t know why the occur. We just have to work harder in that sense.

“We’ve improved defensively, so we now have to do the same in the final third, there’s too big of a difference with those in front of us.

“Who do I blame? None of them. We signed Eder [from Sampdoria] in January, thinking he could replicate what he did in Genoa.

“There’s been bad luck too, like against Milan when they won with a headed goal. These things happen sometimes. With 10 more goals we’d have taken more points.

“I think [Stevan] Jovetic will score more goals next season, like the others. Other than [Lionel] Messi or [Cristiano] Ronaldo I don’t see any solutions.

“Quality is the basis for everything, it’s not just about experience. Without quality you can’t make the difference, we have to always be ready.

“The same goes for the midfielders and the wingers though.”

Given the Beneamata’s stated objective this season was a top-three finish, have they disappointed?

“Big players raise the level of a team and allow others to improve. We’re no longer the Inter of 10 years ago, we have a young squad and we’re under construction.

“It’s normal that there will be disappointments along the way. The start we had made a rod for our own backs, people thought we could get to the Scudetto, but I always said it would be difficult.

“It would take consistency like Leicester [City], we can do that in the coming years. I’m disappointed for everyone, our goal was to finish third, but we want to improve.

“We’re not the team we were last year.

“Miranda is a guarantee and [Jeison] Murillo is still very young. [Geoffrey] Kondogbia and [Ivan] Perisic have raised their levels of performance, we’ll see what happens.”
