Mateo Kovacic says Inter's target is to return 'among the top three', whilst discussing the club's new signings.

In spite of having finished eighth last season, Inter are now being touted as a Scudetto challenger after their aggressive transfer campaign.

“It's certainly a big leap forward,” admitted the Croatian, in an interview with Il Corriere dello Sport.

“It will take time and hard work, because the Italian league is very competitive and we've changed a few things as a team.

“Our objective must be that of coming among the top three, to bring Inter back into the Champions League. Then we'll see what happens.

“My hope is that of winning a trophy with Inter. I've been here two-and-a-half years and I think I've waited long enough.”

The 21-year-old was then asked to discuss his Coach, Roberto Mancini, who will be able to start a full campaign with the Nerazzurri after taking over from Walter Mazzarri in November last season.

“Mancini is a great Coach and his trophies speak for him. He won something everywhere he went.

“Having said that, I don't want to detract from the other Coaches I had at Inter.

“Stramaccioni, for example, was young but he was very good, and I had a positive relationship with him.

“Mancini knows us better and if we start a certain type of training from July, we have a better chance of absorbing his football style.

“We're working so that we can give our best and put in practice what is being asked of us.

“I hope that Mancini stays with Inter for a long time and that he can help us win some trophy.”

Kovacic then went on to discuss several of Inter's new players, starting from Geoffrey Kondogbia.

“Kondogbia is a strong player, certainly. There's no need for me to wonder how good he is since he disputed the Champions League with Monaco and is a French international.

“He can be very important for us and I'm convinced that once he's properly integrated into the group, he'll be of great use.

“Someone who has his power can 'move' quite a lot on the pitch.”

“[Jeison] Murillo? He's the one I trained the least with, but against Bayern [Munich] he proved he had a strong personality.

“You feel his presence in the middle of the defence.

“[Martin] Montoya? He comes from Barcelona and last season he won everything. He's got a strong run and a good foot.”

Finally, Kovacic had a word on Inter target Ivan Perisic, from Wolfsburg.

“I know Perisic well. He's the most talented player in Croatia.

“He's got everything and he'd certainly do well at Inter.”
