Roberto Mancini has commented for the first time following his decision to resign as head coach of the Italy national team on Sunday afternoon.

The 58-year-old took to Instagram to bid his farewell to the nation, thanking his players and fans for the support they have given him over the course of his five-year reign.

“Resigning as CT of the Nazionale was a personal decision of mine,” Mancini wrote on his official Instagram account.

“I would like to thank Gabriele Gravina for the confidence he showed in me, as well as all members of the FIGC.

“I salute and thank all of my players as well as the fans, who have stood by me over the last five years. I will always hold the extraordinary victory at EURO 2020 close to my heart. It has been an honour.”

Multiple reports have already begun to suggest that Mancini could be set to take on the position as head coach of the Saudi Arabia national side.

It has been reported that the 58-year-old could put pen to paper on a three-year contract in the coming days.
