“We tried to the end and had several chances, there was some fatigue at the end. Of course, we’re disappointed not to win, but there was no sharpness,” the coach told RAI Sport.
“It was very similar to the game we played in Turin, with Bosnia sitting back to wait for us and go on the counter, so a little more sharpness would’ve made the difference.”
This 1-1 draw means the record-breaking run of 11 consecutive Azzurri victories comes to a halt.
“The winning streak had to end sooner or later, we’re glad it was with a draw and not a defeat. We’ll keep this basic structure going forward, a few players will change because obviously they can’t play every three days.”
There was confusion before kick-off, with reports Giorgio Chiellini was left off the starting XI in favour of Francesco Acerbi by mistake.
“There was a problem, we were afraid he could hurt himself, so we waited, that’s all.”
