Roberto Mancini admits Argentina ‘were better’ on the night of the Finalissima, although Italy should’ve taken some of their early chances.

The Azzurri were decimated by injuries and up against an Argentina side that was unbeaten in three calendar years, but they were still comfortably out-played at Wembley Stadium in a 3-0 defeat.

Only Gianluigi Donnarumma prevented the result being heavier, making a series of saves on his PSG teammate Lionel Messi, after Inter’s Lautaro Martinez scored one and assisted another for Juventus target Angel Di Maria.

Finalissima Italy 0-3 Argentina: Lautaro ruins Azzurri return to Wembley

Paulo Dybala came off the bench in stoppages and scored with a precise angled drive in the last kick of the game.

“The first half we made two mistakes on the two goals, but the game was balanced. At that point, they did better to keep the ball and move it around well. They were better,” Mancini told RAI Sport.

“We should’ve tried to score a goal and open up the game again, but in the second half we did far too little to turn this around. We had chances in the first half and should’ve taken more of them then.”

  1. What did you expect with that awful line up??? Belotti, Bernardeschi, Pessina, Jorginho, Di Lorenzo, Emerson etc. those guys useless! Lazzari or Calabria should be the new right full backs. Frattesi, Tonali, Pellegrini should’ve been starting over Jorginho and and Pessina. Politano, Scamacca and Zaccagni should’ve been the forward line based on availability. Chiellini goes out with a loss. Bonucci can pack it in to. Time to bring out Bastoni and Scalvini/Mancini in the middle. Change needs to happen now!!

  2. Italy can play so much batter than they did tonight vs Argentina. My advice to Mancini-bring in Balotelli!

  3. Ah so his brain is working…to a limited capacity. Argentina were already the better team before they walked onto the pitch.

  4. Donnarumma, CALABRIA, MANCINI, BASTONI, Spinazzola, Barella, TONALI, Veratti, ZANIOLO, SCAMACCA, Chiesa

All those players in caps are young and get regular game time. He is the one not playing them.
