Roberto Mancini is “emotional” after being appointed as Italy CT, something which makes his parents proud.

The Coach was officially confirmed as the new Azzurri boss yesterday, and was officially presented at Coverciano this morning.

“I’m emotional, because the bench of the national team is not something trivial,” Mancini said.

“I want to than the commissioner [Roberto Fabbricini], and the sub-commissioner Michele [Uva]. They made me feel 100 per cent wanted.

“I’m emotional, because the bench of the national team is not something trivial,” Mancini said.

“I want to than the commissioner [Roberto Fabbricini], and the sub-commissioner Michele [Uva]. They made me feel 100 per cent wanted.

“I’m proud, for someone like me who came to Coverciano with the Under-14s in 1978 becoming Coach of the national team is one of the most beautiful things that could happen.

“I’m happy about this for my parents too, I think they’re delighted. I want to thank the Coaches I had as a player, they were very important.

“I think becoming CT is the highest aspiration any Coach can have, then in every moment of a career there are decisions to make, for each of us.

“There are those who prefer a club and need to see the players every day, I’ve been coaching for many years and this is the right time, because we have to do something for the national team.

“Not going to the World Cup, for those of us who were watching as fans, was a difficult thing to take. I think that every Coach aspires to become CT.”

Mancini then reflected on his time as a player with the Azzurri.

“My relationship with the national team lasted a long time, I think I was the only one to have [Enzo] Bearzot, [Azeglio] Vicini and [Arrigo] Sacchi as CT.

“It wasn’t the luckiest period, but I was at Coverciano for a long time. Unfortunately we never won a World Cup or European Championship, but we were close.

“I want to be a good CT, I want to take Italy to the top of the world and Europe. The Nations League, the first important commitment, starts soon.

“I hope to bring the national team back to high levels. With hard work we can do it.”
