Manchester United have made contact with Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic’s agent, according to reports in France, seeing him as an alternative to Casemiro and Juventus man Adrien Rabiot.

Tuttomercatoweb claim today that Manchester United have formally abandoned negotiations with Rabiot’s mother and agent Veronique, citing the €10m per season plus commission demands to be completely out of the question.

It comes after Juve had agreed a selling fee of €20m plus bonuses for the France international.

The Premier League club instead turned towards Casemiro, but Real Madrid want €60m for the 30-year-old and he too has a massive salary.

Therefore, Footmercato note that Manchester United have contacted the agent of Milinkovic-Savic, Mateja Kezman, who it had already been reported a few weeks ago was ready to bring a bid of over €50m to Lazio.

Milinkovic-Savic is younger than Casemiro at 27 years of age, is a Serbia international with 34 caps and his contract with the Biancocelesti runs to June 2024.

He was purchased from KRC Genk in 2015 for €12m and has repeatedly stated he is not interested in leaving the Stadio Olimpico, especially now coach Maurizio Sarri is settling in.

SMS provided an assist in the opening game of the season, a comeback 2-1 win over Bologna.

While Lazio have previously rejected offers close to €100m for Milinkovic-Savic, they could be tempted this time around.

Last season, he contributed 11 goals and 11 assists in 37 Serie A games.
