Juventus have come second behind Manchester United in a survey calculating the clubs that have over-paid the most for players on the transfer market since 2012.

The CIES Football Observatory’s statistical model has calculated the value of players prior to their transfer and compared it to the fees paid.

Over the last 10 years, Manchester United have overpaid the most, spending €238m more than the estimated value of the 33 transfers they made during this period.

Juventus come in second, spending €233m more than the value of the players, followed by Paris Saint-Germain on €162m.

The study confirmed that Premier League clubs are above all driving inflation, because only three of those clubs invested less than expected.

Over the last decade, Roma overpaid to the tune of €67m, Napoli €62m, Atalanta €37m, Inter €34m, Sassuolo €19m, Torino and Verona €3m, Milan just €2m, with Spezia and Cremonese €1m over.

Those who saved money compared to the calculated value of the players they signed were Bologna €2m, Salernitana €3m, Sampdoria €7m, Lazio €8m, Udinese €21m and Fiorentina a massive €39m.

Yet in Europe’s top five leagues, there are those who saved more, specifically Sevilla €44m, Barcelona €47m and Atletico Madrid €82m.

  1. and they are still the 7/9 for a very good reason. There worst transfer signing has to be Flinstone Max. Giving a dinosaur a 4 year £7m a term contract was genius. Now the fans are being spoilt with Hiroshima comatose calcio where 0 shots on goal are attempted in Monza.

  2. Agreed @Lord, but do not forget about Paratici and this failed former Ferrari director who knows nothing about football. Now running the ship and its already hit an ice berg.

  3. nothing new here, but i dont believe milan 2m euros paqueta bought for 35m euros sold to lyon for 20meuros

  4. ManU aren’t a football club, they’re a “lifestyle brand” (eyeroll) using a Potemkin Village of footballers to sell TV adverts and merchandise.
