Sky Sport Italia transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio claims Manchester City owners are interested in buying Italian club Palermo.

While the negotiations from Bahrain-based investment fund Investcorp for a takeover of AC Milan hits the headlines today, that is not the only potential overseas swoop for an Italian side.

According to Di Marzio, Palermo have been approached by City Football Group for a potential investment opportunity.

The biggest club in Sicily was a relative regular in Serie A and B until bankruptcy in the summer of 2019.

They had to begin again from Serie D and have already achieved promotion to Serie C, the third tier of Italian football.

It would not be entirely unusual for City Football Group to invest in Italy, as they already own 10 clubs around the world, including Manchester City, Troyes and Girona.

The interest in Palermo is currently believed to be at an early stage, but could develop over the next few weeks.
