Manchester United are expected to sack Erik Ten Hag in the summer and have started internally exploring the idea of hiring Bologna coach Thiago Motta.

Ten Hag has come under increasing pressure with the Red Devils this season after failing to keep pace with the teams at the top of the Premier League and crashing out of the Champions League group stage.

After over 18 months at the helm, patience has started to wear thin at Manchester United and new sporting head Sir James Ratcliffe is now expected to dismiss Ten Hag in the summer, keen to start a fresh era.

As reported by TEAMtalk, Ratcliffe and his colleagues at Manchester United have started to internally explore the idea of picking up Thiago Motta to replace Ten Hag at the end of the season, impressed with the Italian-Brazilian coach’s work with Bologna.

The 41-year-old has shined in Emilia-Romagna this term, guiding the Rossoblu to an unexpected Champions League qualification battle. With 11 Serie A matches left to play, Bologna sit fourth in the table with 51 points, four ahead of challengers Roma.

He has already attracted the attention of a number of top clubs around Europe, including Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus, Milan and Barcelona.
