Roma’s first choice for right-back is Diogo Dalot, but if a deal cannot be done with Manchester United, then they are also in talks with Sampdoria for Bartosz Bereszynski.

Jose Mourinho complained vocally and repeatedly that he does not have sufficient back-up in his squad to rotate or even replace any injured members of the first XI.

Among the roles that are uncovered there is the right-back, where Rick Karsdorp has little real competition.

Mourinho had requested Dalot, who already has Serie A experience from his loan at Milan last season and would be available on loan from Manchester United.

They are tough negotiators, though, and would prefer it to be an obligation to buy for over €10m.

According to the Corriere dello Sport, the Giallorossi are also in talks with Sampdoria for Poland international Bereszynski.

He could be secured on loan with option to buy for €6m and the price cut even further by the inclusion of a youth team player on loan, for example Riccardo Calafiori or even unwanted midfielder Gonzalo Villar.

Like Dalot, Bereszynski is able to play on the right or left side of defence.
