Manchester City tried to sign Inter defender Alessandro Bastoni in January, according to Tuttosport, but were rebuffed.

The centre-back turns 22 next month and is a product of the prolific Atalanta youth academy.

Inter saw his promise so early that they paid €31m to sign him in the summer of 2017, leaving him on loan in Bergamo for another year.

He then had another loan spell at Parma, until becoming a regular for the Nerazzurri from 2019.

Tuttosport suggest Pep Guardiola tried to sign Bastoni for Manchester City in January, but Inter have no intention of selling the Italy international.

Bastoni has been compared to Leonardo Bonucci for his ability to play long balls and precise passing.

Guardiola has long admired Bonucci and tried several times to sign the Juventus defender.
