The deal had been seemingly done with both club and player for several weeks, believed to be worth €60m including various bonuses.

However, the signature on the contracts never came and instead he was today presented as a new Chelsea player.

According to several British papers, Manchester City directors are livid with Napoli, insisting they had shaken hands over the agreement and it was just waiting to be finalised.

They imply Napoli worked out they could get more from Chelsea if they included some of that fee as a sort of release clause to buy Sarri out of his contract too.

At that point, the club pressured Jorginho into rejecting Manchester City and signing for Chelsea instead.

Sky Sport Italia had already put forward this version of events, that Jorginho and his agent didn’t feel ready to kick up a fuss.

The move to Stamford Bridge still makes a great deal of sense, as he is again working with ex-Napoli boss Sarri.
