The newspaper reports that UEFA investigators will ask for Manchester City to be banned from the competition, as they are accused of misleading financial regulators while breaking the rules on sponsorships linked to a club’s owners.

Football leaks released files that allege that the Premier League side tried to circumvent UEFA’s Financial Fair Play rules by masking cash injections from a United Arab Emirates state-backed investment company, through sponsorship agreements with companies like Eithad, who are their principal sponsors.

Milan on the other hand, have been under FFP investigation since they spent €200m on players in 2017, and won an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport after they received a ban from the Europa League.

The Rossoneri were then assessed by UEFA in December and were told to have their accounts in order by 2021 or have their European ban restored.

These are signs of UEFA increasingly clamping down on Financial Fair Play violations, even for the biggest clubs, especially after the FootballLeaks scandal published previously unseen documents.
