Clubs owned by the City Football Group, including Manchester City and New York City FC, have welcomed Palermo to the family on social media following the club’s takeover.
Palermo have become the first Italian team owned by City Group and all the clubs belonging to the group have welcomed Palermo on Twitter.
“Welcome to the family,” wrote Manchester City on Twitter. “Best of luck.”
New York City sent a similar message to their new Italian ‘brothers’ by writing: “Welcome to the fam.”
Yokohama F·Marinos, Montevideo City Torque, Girona FC, Lommel SK, Troyes, Club Bolivar and Mumbai City did the same and Palermo replied to them all.
City’s CEO Ferran Soriano held a press conference at the Stadio Barbera on Monday to unveil the project for the Rosanero who gained promotion to Serie B last season.
The presser was also attended by Alberto Galassi, an Italian lawyer part of the board of directors who explained why the City Group have invested in Palermo.
“It was an easy choice,” Galassi told Sky Sport Italia.
“City didn’t own a club in Italy, the fans here are amazing and are known worldwide. We made this choice before the playoffs. We picked Palermo regardless of the sporting result.”
Soriano claimed that even Pep Guardiola discussed the club’s takeover with him, adding that the Spanish coach could work in Serie A one day.
