However, speaking to the Press ahead of welcoming the Nerazzurri, Malesani expressed caution in writing off Claudio Ranieri’s side.
“Inter are always Inter, tomorrow night will be an undertaking. Everyone thinks they are in a bad way, but Inter always deserve respect because they have won so much and is one of the best clubs in the world.
“At the end of the season the records will show Ranieri’s side will be ahead of many other teams.”
Indeed, should the Grifone wish to score a first goal at home to the Nerazzurri since March 2008 or even manage to pick up a first point in the same period, then it will have to be without Rodrigo Palacio, who was ruled out until the new year with a thigh strain.
“I have never looked for excuses in my work, but Palacio is the jewel in our crown. We will do everything possible to find the group’s strength in his absence.
“I will draw conclusions from training today – our goal for now is to recover physically and mentally.”
Malesani reflected on the weekend’s win over Siena as aiding that duel recovery.
“Victories are the best medicine because victories cancel out everything else and can have you looking ahead with confidence.
“I have never found any problems with this group, otherwise we would not have 18 points in the standings. The win [at the weekend] has left us even more motivated.”
