“While we were playing, I told the lads we had to keep calm, as this was a game we could win.”

They were given a boost when Santiago Garcia saw red for a second bookable offence on the hour mark.

Substitute Paponi got the goal and Malesani revealed an interesting behind the scenes incident.

“I had advised Paponi to go and play elsewhere during the January transfer window, but he managed to win my trust and now is achieving great things.”
