Paolo Maldini confirms Olivier Giroud should arrive in Milan tomorrow: ‘We needed an experienced player.’

The French striker is expected to arrive in Milan on Thursday but will have his examinations with the Serie A giants on Friday.

The Rossoneri have signed the 2018 France World Cup winner on a €2m deal from Chelsea.

“Yes, Olivier Giroud should arrive tomorrow. Olivier is a champion, he’s done great things with France and Chelsea,” Maldini told DAZN during the unveiling of the Serie A fixture list for 2021-22.

“He is a very reliable player and that’s what we are looking for, as we have the youngest squad in Serie A, so we need some with more experience.”

Giroud had signed a contract extension with Chelsea, but that was only to prevent him from joining another Premier League club as a free agent.

The French striker had reached an agreement with Milan even before Chelsea extended his contract. The Serie A giants managed to secure his services after a month of negotiations with the Premier League giants.

The 34-year-old will sign a two-year deal with the Rossoneri and will be the starting striker while Zlatan Ibrahimovic recovers from his knee injury.

Giroud joined Chelsea from Arsenal in January 2018. He has 90 goals in 255 Premier League appearances and netted 39 goals in 119 games with the Blues.
