Paolo Maldini believes Damiano Tommasi “must be supported” as FIGC President after admitting Italy's World Cup no-show “still burns”.
Tommasi is set to go against lower-League chiefs Gabriele Gravina and Cosimo Sibilia in the running for the FIGC's presidency next week, and Maldini made it clear his ex-Roma rival had Italy's best interests at heart.
“World Cup elimination? It still burns… it's a very bad feeling,” he told Gazzetta dello Sport.

“However, I fear that the severity of what has happened hasn't been properly grasped.
“For two weeks, there was a big uprising, but then everything went back to how it was before.
“Our system is difficult to change. I think Tommasi must be supported. He had the courage to put himself forward and has the knowledge to put our football back at the forefront.”
