Cesare Maldini has come out against the use of Oriundi in the Italy squad. “I'd have preferred Angelo Palombo to Thiago Motta.”
The former Italy Coach is unhappy with the increase in foreign-born players in Cesare Prandelli's squad, including Cristian Ledesma, Amauri and Inter midfielder Thiago Motta.
“I am against the use of Oriundi in the Nazionale,” Maldini told Radio Incontro today.
“Do we not have players in Italy who are as good as Thiago Motta? I think so. I consider Oriundi to be a return to the past.

“In a list of 27-30 players, was a Brazilian the right man? I'd have preferred Palombo to Thiago Motta for a starting spot against Germany last night, but instead he was left on the bench.”
The 1998 World Cup tactician analysed the 1-1 international friendly draw in Dortmund.
“Giampaolo Pazzini is a good player and proving that with Inter. Antonio Cassano is paying the price for a long period on the sidelines, so with all those options it was not the best strike partnership to pick.
“Riccardo Montolivo and Daniele De Rossi played well, despite the fact they're not having great seasons at club level.
“I am confident Andrea Ranocchia and Leonardo Bonucci represent the future of the defence and we will find a great heir to Gigi Buffon in goal.”
