“Certainly, difficult moments happen to everyone and are part of the growth of each young person.
“He seems to have managed to overcome those moments always in the best way.
“And like me he’s progressed from the youth set-up to the senior side? Yeah, and he did so in a very complex period for those coming looking to arrive from the academy.
“Today focusing on youngsters is more difficult than when I began playing, partly because in Italian football it is unthinkable to see a 16-year-old as a regular in the first team.”
Maldini also had words of encouragement for Stephan El Shaarawy.
“He seems to be recovering his best form. Unfortunately during the last season he has had a series of injuries that affected his development, but I believe that he is now regaining his confidence and serenity, and he can return to the highest levels.”
