Milan technical director Paolo Maldini says the ‘results are more open’ in Serie A and admitted he misses ‘the tension’ from the fans at San Siro.

The Diavolo sit top of Serie A after seven games unbeaten in the League, but the director has admitted that the season has been strange so far.

“This year the results are more open, even with completely different numbers,” Maldini told Radio 105. “The absence of the public certainly determines something.

The Diavolo sit top of Serie A after seven games unbeaten in the League, but the director has admitted that the season has been strange so far.

“This year the results are more open, even with completely different numbers,” Maldini told Radio 105. “The absence of the public certainly determines something.

“Some say we are where we are thanks to the absence, but I’m sure they would have given us more strength.

“Not having the audience is still a terrible thing. Emotions are connected to the fans. Like, for example, with the 90,000 of Barcelona or the 80,000 at San Siro.

“I miss the tension, which the public gives you, above all.”

Maldini secured a new deal for Zlatan Ibrahimovic and the Swede has started with eight goals in five Serie A games this term.

And the former defender believes the 39-year-old has ‘become bigger’, as he struggled more when he faced former Inter forward Adriano than Zlatan.

“As a player, I met him with different teams and I marked him as a centre-back,” he said. “Now, for me, he has become bigger, also because I didn’t struggle to move as much as I did with Adriano.”
