Maldini is still a Milan player and came through their youth academy, following in the footsteps of father Paolo and grandfather Cesare.

Daniel was loaned out to Spezia for this season so that he could get more regular playing time.

He is in the starting XI at San Siro as a Serie A opponent to Milan, something his father never did, but his grandfather had this unusual experience.

Cesare Maldini started for Torino on January 8, 1967 at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in a 1-1 draw against his beloved Milan.

Daniel turned 21 years of age last month and he made 24 competitive appearances for the Milan senior squad, scoring one goal.

His brother Christian plays for Lecco.
