Paolo Maldini warns the club has run out of patience after Udinese’s handball equaliser. ‘Milan are top of the table and cannot always have debutant referees at San Siro.’

Rafael Leao had opened the scoring this evening, but Destiny Udogie appeared to bundle the equaliser over the line with his arm from close range.

Despite a pause for the VAR to check the potential handball, they opted not to call the referee over for an on-field review and the game ended 1-1.

Serie A | Milan 1-1 Udinese: Rossoneri stumble again

“Our performance was not perfect, we are not sharp at the moment and we have again taken the lead only to be clawed back,” Maldini told Milan TV.

“Having said all of that, VAR is there to remove doubt. This is not the way it should be used and it’s not the first time. That was a clear incident, we need people who understand football to make decisions and that means referees.

“I will add more, and I send this message to those people who need to receive it: Milan are top of the table and we cannot always have debutant referees at San Siro. It is not easy to officiate at San Siro. Unfortunately, the referee made a lot of mistakes.”

There was also an earlier incident that irritated the Rossoneri, as the referee stopped play to book an Udinese player when giving the advantage would’ve allowed Milan to continue their promising counter-attack.

  1. Maldini and Elliot to take this season to CAS if Milan lose the Scudetto by less than the number of points that were stolen by referees.
    Mark my words.

  2. Maldini you are great an always will be great.
We know you love that team so much
    Problem is Pioli Diaz
They do t have blood and some of other play
    They ask only for money.
Pioli surround by you and he learn a lot.
    He is for seria B

  3. @Troj

If you look at Milan‘s team at the moment, you will really appreciate Pioli’s work.
This “cheap” Milan team is able to compete with expensive squad like Inter and Juve,
or teams who already have strong connections. identity and collective work such as Napoli and Atalanta.
Milan have been remarkable in Pioli’s hand along with smart technical directors for the past 2 years, and I can only be grateful that we can compete in Scudetto this year.
Like come on, we have Zlatan who played like less than half of the matches so far, with his backup Giroud that we got for 1 mio.
Kalulu was like 500K or something and have grown brilliantly with others young players.
Theo, Leao, Tomori, Kjaer, Tonali, Bennacer has proven that it was genius purchase by Maldini.
With their price when we bought them, they are rated like “B players”
If you see how much they earn and compare it to others at Inter or Juve, their salary is cheap.
It’s easy to bash on one player and even more to a Coach if a bad result shows up.
But again, this Milan have overachieved with what I can hope for the last 2 years.

  4. 1 Milan 27 19 5 3 62
    2 Inter 26 16 7 3 55

Removing the ridiculously amateurish mistakes of two referees this season, and Milan and looking really good, even though they have been playing some very average football, which I’m sure even the players watching their work will admit it has been very loose and lacking of late.

Good teams can win, even when they play badly. This is a case in point. And yet, the most obvious of mistakes in a system where we have VAR to remove the mistakes, has taken another two points from what would be the league leaders by more than a game.

Top teams still win when they play badly, except when obvious mistakes are allowed to be the history book entry. I hope Milan protest this season and the way the league has treated them.

  5. Look forward to Milan being punished for complaining about referees just like Roma are whenever they open their mouths. Oh no that’s right, Milan get apologies whilst Roma get bans & fines. As for trying to influence which referees your team is allocated – isn’t that exactly what Moggi did?

  6. I wish they’d focus more on the terrible performance. Look inside, we’ve struggled against Salernitana and Udinese. Even if the ref makes a mistake, we shouldn’t have been in a position where their one goal would have made a difference. The team’s playing isn’t working and that’s what Maldini and co should be concerned about.

  7. @Gi-al-lorOssi. I really have a simphaty for what happen to Roma. But really, both legs of Milan vs Roma this season has been favourable for Roma by the refs.
Milan has more less favourable matchesby refs, what made the scandal less prominent is the fact that Milan still able to win some of them.
This happen too often to be accidental. It said that they plan to appoint new clubs president. Hope the new one can shed some light into this savage accts in Italian football

  8. Serie A reffing stinks. More often than not Milan have been the beneficiaries of poor reffing and favorable calls, and even apologies for reffing mistakes. You don’t get to first place in Serie A without having the refs on your side most of the time. Maldini and Milan should learn to suffer in silence like they encourage others to do. They’ve gotten plenty of home cooking from the refs. That’s one reason why they are where they are on the table.

  9. Finally Ac Milan decided to complain about the referees.. This has been going on so long and every time they say, we don’t want to blame the referee and when you keep silent, every ref takes you for a ride and that’s what you are getting now
