French sports newspaper L’Équipe confirms Bordeaux winger Malcom wants to join Roma rather than Everton.

Inter had struck a deal with the 21-year-old earlier this summer, but his club wouldn’t accept a loan with option to buy, and that appears dead in the water.

After selling Alisson to Liverpool for €72.5m, the Giallorossi moved quickly to try and do a deal for the Brazilian winger.

The player himself has already agreed a five-year contract worth €2.5m per season, with this morning’s Gazzetta dello Sport indicating that the two clubs are now just haggling over the structure of the transfer fee.

Today’s edition of L’Équipe confirms that Malcom has chosen Roma, and while negotiations are still technically open with the Toffees he’s made it clear he wants Serie A.

While Gazzetta reported that a basic deal was in place for €35m plus €2.5m in bonuses, the French reports tell a slightly different story.

L’Équipe confirms that Roma’s offer was €35m plus €3m in bonuses, but that Girondins won’t let Malcom leave for less than €40m.

The Ligue 1 side made a counter-proposal, and are waiting to see if the Giallorossi will accept their terms.

It would make sense that the French outlet will have sources within Bordeaux while Gazzetta are hearing the Roma side, but the newspapers on either side of the Alps both confirm the initial offer.

The difference is therefore the stance of the two clubs, with Girondins clearly keen drive the price higher.

A deal could be concluded in the next few days, with Everton on standby in case talks collapse.
