A long applause welcomed the newly re-elected chief and National Council chairman Franco Carraro thanked the competitors for a ‘fair and civil competition’ for the position.

With 55 votes, Malagó beat Renato Di Rocco and Antonella Belutti and will therefore serve his third and last term as CONI President.

Malagó has been in office since February 2013 and said he ‘will always be on the side of sport’.

“It will be my third term, the last,” Malagó said, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport. “I will not spare myself to be strong and credible in this stormy moment.

“There’s nothing more beautiful than being the President of CONI. I will always be on the side of sports. Thanks to all my opponents, only electoral ones.”
