Maignan wins Serie A Best Goalkeeper award

Mike Maignan has won the Serie A Best Goalkeeper award following an incredible debut campaign with Milan.

The 26-year-old Frenchman joined the Rossoneri from Lille last summer in a deal worth around €15m in total, being brought in to replace the departing Gianluigi Donnarumma. He immediately set a good tone in Lombardy and has gone on to shine as Milan push for their first league title in a decade.

As announced by Lega Serie A, Maignan has been awarded the Serie A MVP Best Goalkeeper title following his strong debut season with Milan. The Frenchman has conceded 21 goals and kept 16 clean sheets in 31 Serie A appearances this season, shining despite missing six games through a wrist injury.

Looking at the statistics, the former Lille goalkeeper stands out above all overs; he has a Post-Shot Expected Goals minus Goals Allowed of +7.1, the best in the league and far above second place Davide Ospina, who has a PSxG+/- of +5.2. The stat essentially suggests Maignan has saved seven goals from going in, based on the accumulative quality of shots faced.

  1. Adel

Better by far in everything! Theo is the best leftback and tomorrow and kalulu is by far the best centre backs pairing! Best young player is Tonali while leao is best attacking forward.. even I am looking for who is gonna rival Calabria for that right back best player!

  2. DB Milan

Incredibly well deserved for his performances this season. What a goalkeeper and what a deal by Milan.

  3. Acemilan

Imagine where he and ” we ” would be if had not been injured early on. Mike M has been one of the best surprises this year for Milan. Milan back 4 and keeper are forming the core of great things to come. I hope lol .

  4. JesuMilani

    Well deserved 👌🥂👍👏❤️

  5. Ardhi

Well deserved award. Mike’s impact this season is similar to Kaka when he joined Milan in 2003/2004 season.

  6. Oh hizzy you SOO grizzly

Best deal Milan made was getting the idiot go sit on the bench at psg and bring Mike in. His salary and transfer fee covered in 2 years of donoramas salary alone and he signed for 5 years so Milan save 12 mil by cutting donorma lose and signing Mike in the same period of time. Not to mention I wouldn’t trade Mike for donorama even if it was the other way around.

Milan and Elliot hedge have done great together. Probably the best top team resurgence, during covid, finding young cheap talent. Great business and a business model to follow. I wish the new owners a good continuation.
