New Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan wants to follow in Gigio Donnarumma’s footsteps and reveals he had been in talks with Roma.

The France international was unveiled at a press conference today.

He has joined the Rossoneri in a €15m deal from Lille, replacing Gigio Donnarumma, who left the Rossoneri at the end of his contract in June.

“It was nice to speak to Paolo Maldini and Massara when they called me, it was thrilling,” Maignan said.

“We spoke at the end of last season and I told them I was ready to join the club. I signed with Milan after we knew about Donnarumma’s decision.

“Donnarumma made a great contribution to the positive results of Milan. Now, my story starts, so I will work very hard to do the same.

“I had been contacted by Roma as well, but I was already in talks with Milan and so I signed with the Rossoneri,” the Frenchman revealed.

“I immediately felt a great atmosphere here, I was very well-received.

“Milan have a great history and we are all here to win. We want to win the title and we’ll need great concentration and be ready to work hard at any time.

“My mentality is my strength. I am always focused and I am here to improve, I’ll try to do it every day,” Maignan added.

“Milan can help me and I can help Milan, playing in Italy will make me a better goalkeeper. The first impact with Dida was positive, he used to e a top goalkeeper, so he will be very helpful for me.”

The Rossoneri will face OGC Nice in a friendly encounter on Saturday and Maignan is expected to start.

“It’s been a very intense week, but I am ready for the game,” the goalkeeper concluded.
