Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan showed his wrist after surgery that will keep him out for 10 weeks and assures ‘my left wing has been hit, but my return to the air will be frightening.’

The France international had keyhole surgery today that repaired a damaged ligament in his left wrist and fixed a percutaneous pedicle screw to the scaphoid bone in his wrist due to a vascular problem.

He must wear the cast for six weeks, then begin the rehabilitation process, hoping to be back on the pitch in circa 10 weeks’ time.

Maignan posted an image of himself in hospital this evening with a message for the fans, written in French and Italian.

“My left wing has been hit, but my return to the air will be frightening. Thank you to everyone for your messages and your support, together we are stronger.”

The Rossoneri have signed 38-year-old goalkeeper Antonio Mirante as a free agent until the end of the season to fill in for Maignan, challenging Ciprian Tatarusanu for the gloves.

Mirante will be able to register for the Champions League group stage, as Maignan is ruled out for over 30 days, so UEFA allow a loophole.

  1. Man, been feeling the same but battling it…trying to stay up.

Need to be stronger in DEF & more clinical in ATT until ME returns. All we can do. Might result in a tighter bond throughout the team. Have to keep pushing.

    Forza Milan!

  2. Tatarusanu is an excellent goal keeper and has a lot of experience with the Romanian national team and proved himself when he played for Milan and Romania. Everything will be ok hopefully and this could be a good thing creating a more competitive goalkeeping challenge for the team.

  3. Tatarusanu messed up in his first or second game for us, which has coloured my judgement of him. However I think he played in 1 or 2 Europa League games last season in which he did quite well. So I hope he can perform well again, though I hope our defense will do well enough that he won’t have much work to do.
