Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan was forced off the pitch in the first half of a Europa League game against Slavia Praha due to a knee injury.

France international Maignan suffered an injury to his right knee in the opening stages of a Europa League Round of 16 second leg between Milan and Slavia Praha on Thursday.

Maignan received a backpass, but Slavia’s Tomas Vlceck was closing him down and the Milan keeper managed to clear before colliding. Maignan fell to the ground, and Milan doctors were rushed onto the pitch, where they strapped up his right knee.

The 28-year-old remained on the field for nearly ten minutes while second-choice keeper Marco Sportiello warmed up on the touchline. Maignan even produced a save using his injured leg before being subbed off at minute 20.

The France international has kept 13 clean sheets in 35 games this season, conceding 45 goals.

He missed 24 matches last season due to a calf muscle tear, remaining on the treatment table from mid-October until mid-February.

  1. Dirty team. I’m glad they’re being punished. 2 terrible challenges deservedly punished with red cards, but they managed to hurt maignan too. You can say he’s going for the ball, but it is a terrible lunge regardless.
