La Gazzetta dello Sport confirms Mike Maignan wants at least €7m to extend his contract with Milan, so reaching an agreement will be difficult. However, it’s not the same situation the club and Gigio Donnarumma experienced in 2021.

Talks to extend Maignan’s contract have not yet reached a final stage because the French international has demanded a new €7m-a-year salary, which would make him the highest-paid player in the team alongside Rafael Leao, reports Gazzetta.

The ex-Lille keeper currently earns €3.2m per season and his contract with the Serie A giants runs out in June 2026.

According to Gazzetta, reaching an agreement between the two parties will be difficult because Milan want to keep the wage bill under control and see Leao as the ‘only exception.’ The Portuguese star earns €5m-6m per season plus add-ons, which allows him to get €7m per season.

However, Gazzetta highlights that Maignan still has two years left in his contract with the Rossoneri so his case is way different from Gigio Donnarumma’s as the Italian goalkeeper refused to extend his expiring contract in 2021, joining PSG on a free transfer.

Milan don’t run the same risk and could listen to offers for Maignan at the end of the season if they fail to reach an agreement with the 28-year-od. Bayern Munich are reportedly among the clubs in the front row to sign ‘Magic Mike’ in the summer.
