Milan CEO Giorgio Furlani will be tasked with resolving the tensions in the Milan camp following the unexpected dismissal of technical director Paolo Maldini.

The former defender left the club on Monday following a short but tense meeting with owner Gerry Cardinale, a situation that has thrown the Rossoneri into a state of chaos. Fans have been infuriated by the move and the hashtag #CardinaleOut has quickly gathered steam on social media.

Maldini, who spent the entirety of his 24-year playing career with Milan, was a key figure behind the team’s return to the upper echelons of Serie A, bringing in a number of top players who helped the side lift their first Scudetto in a decade.

As reported by La Repubblica, tensions have started to brew amongst the Milan players following Maldini’s dismissal, a situation that CEO Furlani will now have to try and resolve, starting with Mike Maignan’s contract renewal.

Rafael Leao and Theo Hernandez, who were both convinced by Maldini to commit their futures to the club, are also unhappy and the situation could push them to start exploring exit plans.
