Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan has responded via social media after Genoa President Alberto Zangrillo said his foul on Caleb Ekuban was ‘murderous.’

The incident occurred in the final minutes of last night’s 1-0 Rossoneri victory at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris, also known as Marassi.

The goalkeeper came flying off his line to nod the ball clear outside the penalty area, but in order to make the leap, he had his knee raised and caught Ekuban on the chest and face.

Following a VAR review, Maignan was sent off and will therefore be suspended against Juventus, but that was not enough for Zangrillo.

The Genoa President spoke to Sky Sport Italia and DAZN afterwards, describing the challenge as “murderous” and wandering aloud how long the ban will be for Maignan.

Now the France international has replied with a message on his Instagram Stories.

“Zangrillo! Words have meaning. What happened yesterday was a gamble, perhaps a deplorable gamble, but in no way was it ‘murderous.’

“I wish you the best for the future and hope you will never have to experience what you just accused me of.”

With Maignan sent off and all the substitutions completed, it was his teammate Olivier Giroud who went in goal and made a decisive save on George Puscas.

Ekuban was also able to continue the match to the final whistle.
