The big news for Stefano Pioli is bringing Maignan into the starting XI for the first time in 2023.

He had started the season well, with seven Serie A appearances and two in the Champions League, but suffered a calf strain while on international duty with France against Austria on September 22.

Maignan’s last game for Milan was the 2-1 home defeat to Napoli in Serie A on September 18.

The calf strain took far longer to recover from than previously hoped, forcing him to miss the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, then he suffered a relapse that further delayed the return to action.

In his absence, Milan have played 12 victories, three draws and eight defeats in all competition.

Ciprian Tatarusanu was between the sticks, conceding 31 goals in 23 games, keeping seven clean sheets.
