There are audacious rumours on Italy's front pages that Inter and Real Madrid will exchange Douglas Maicon with Kaka.

It would certainly not be the first time that this theory has been floated in the media, but it has made a sudden re-emergence via the Gazzetta dello Sport.

The newspaper suggests tacticians Leonardo and Jose Mourinho held a telephone transfer summit to discuss the option.

It is well known that Mourinho would like a reunion with Brazilian full-back Maicon, as Inter rejected offers from Real Madrid last summer.

It is well known that Mourinho would like a reunion with Brazilian full-back Maicon, as Inter rejected offers from Real Madrid last summer.

The defender has had a difficult campaign, though, and it is far more likely that he would be released now.

In turn, Kaka was first brought to Serie A by Leonardo when he was a talent scout at Milan.

Now that Leo is on the Inter bench, it would make sense for a reunion and finally seeing them work together on the field.

The huge problem here would be that Kaka is still emotionally tied to the Rossoneri and nervous about making the switch to the other side of San Siro.

Kaka's wages of €10m per season could also prove a sticking point for President Massimo Moratti.
