Douglas Maicon felt his handling offence should not have been a penalty in Juventus 3-2 Roma.

The Brazilian charged down an Andrea Pirlo free kick, but even video replays do not entirely clarify whether the contact was inside the box.

“The first sensation was that it wasn’t a penalty, as my arm was across my body, so whether it was in or out of the box shouldn’t have mattered,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“We had such a good game, it’s a real shame about these incidents. The referee? We all go on to the field hoping to do our best and we all know that doesn’t always happen. It’s a tough job.”

Maicon acknowledged that this victory means Juventus are still the Scudetto favourites.

“They are the same team as last season with some new players and these matches count a great deal, so they are still a step ahead. However, we are working and growing, so hope to continue along this path.”
