“When you’re on the touchline, it feels like time has ground to a halt, the clock just stops ticking and it feels like you’re there forever,” Maggiore told Sky Sport Italia.

“It was a great game, we had so many chances and really should’ve killed it off earlier, but we know in Serie A it’ll be a battle to the very end.”

The Italy Under-21 international scored the winning goal, although he scuffed the volley so badly into the ground that it looped up and landed in the far top corner.

“I wanted to put it into the far top corner and that’s where it went! Joking aside, that’s football, when you hit it badly, 99 times out of 100 it goes in anyway.

“We knew this was a hugely important game, almost fundamental for our season, as we needed to get back on track and celebrate our first victory since February.”
