Maggio to extend contract

Christian Maggio will soon put pen to paper on a new contract at Napoli, the player's agent believes.

The versatile wing-back has asked to be rewarded with an improved deal after helping the Azzurri qualify for the Champions League.

"I don't think there will be any problems," his representative Massimo Briaschi told Radio Kiss Kiss. "I am speaking to sporting director Riccardo Bigon about it.

"There is a minimal difference between demand and offer. I think everything should be settled pretty soon.

"Napoli have always considered Maggio as an un-sellable player, even against interest from a top Italian club…"

The right-back, who can also play in midfield, joined the Azzurri in 2008 on a five-year contract with the understanding that his salary would gradually rise from €800,000 up to €1.2m.

The 29-year-old, formerly of Vicenza, Fiorentina and Treviso, moved to the San Paolo after two years at Sampdoria.
