Napoli full-back Christian Maggio describes new Coach Maurizio Sarri as ‘manic’ but has seen ‘good things’ in pre-season.
The Italian international is preparing for his eight season with the Partenopei, and spoke to Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli about how the team is shaping up.
“Every Coach has given me something,” Maggio explained.
“The older you get, the more experience you gain, and they’ve helped me to learn how to be calm on the field.

“Every Coach has given me something,” Maggio explained.
“The older you get, the more experience you gain, and they’ve helped me to learn how to be calm on the field.
“This year we have a Coach in Sarri who is similar to [Walter] Mazzarri. He’s manic about every little detail, he leaves nothing to chance.
“He builds things up from the bottom, and I like that. We’re only at the beginning, but I’ve seen good things.
“There are different ways of training, [Rafa] Benitez had more of the English mentality, he made us feel more confident and allowed us to rest in certain situations.
“Sarri, on the other hand, always asks for the best. He leaves nothing to chance.
“The team is strong, and there’s a good feeling between us. To say we’re aiming for the Scudetto makes no sense, we’ll take things a day at a time without making any calculations.
“We have to take each race head-on, giving our best in every game."
Maggio also defended the Vesuviani’s record last season, despite finishing fifth in Serie A.
“Obviously last year didn’t go as we’d hoped, but if you look at it we almost got to the end in all competitions.
“We didn’t get to our concrete objectives, and there was regret, now there’s a new Coach leading the club, and I’m convinced we can do well.
“If things don’t start well, then we have to stay calm and be aware that we have the players to change the course of our season.”
