Atalanta’s new full-back Joakim Maehle hopes to ‘develop as a player and as a person’ in Bergamo. Here are his first words since joining the Bergamaschi.

The Dane, who moved from KRC Genk to the Orobici, looks forward to start playing for his new side and arrives after great success in Belgium.

He expects to join a competitive team both in Serie A and in Europe and said the move to Bergamo was the ‘right step’.

“I know it’s an amazing team in the top of Serie A,” he told the club’s official channel. “A passionate team who want to play attacking football, scoring a lot of goals.”

He was asked what he could bring to the Orobici and Maele described himself as a ‘dynamic' and versatile player.

“I would say I’m a dynamic player, I always try to give my best for the team and for the fans,” he said. “I’m very attacking minded and I can play on both sides.”

About 2021, Maehle said he wishes to see the supporters return to the stadiums and hopes to ‘develop as a player’ in Bergamo.

“First of all, I hope we will soon see the supporters in the stadiums, of course,” he said. “Football without supporters is a different game.

“I want to develop as a player and as a person. Hopefully I can learn to speak Italian soon, but I want to develop as a player, and I think this is the right step for me.

“I’m excited to start training and playing games, and to see what we can bring in this 2021."
