Inter target Luka Modric is not expected to start for Real Madrid in tonight’s UEFA Super Cup match with Atletico Madrid.

The Croatian is believed to be keen to join the Nerazzurri this summer, with reports that an agreement in principle has already been reached.

However, Los Merengues have so far refused to even countenance a sale, insisting that Modric can only leave for his €750m release clause.

Now Onda Cero is reporting that the midfielder will start on the bench tonight, despite having been training with the team for the past week.

Modric did play in the World Cup final for Croatia a month ago, so it’s likely that he’s simply being rested, but calciomercato.com speculates that it could also be an opening for Inter.

Marcelo and Sergio Ramos came back from holiday at the same time as Modric and are expected to play, though both men went out of the World Cup before Croatia did.
