Massimo Maccarone is waiting to hear from Siena before he considers leaving Sampdoria for another club this January.

The former Middlesbrough man joined the Marassi outfit this time last year, but he no longer features in their plans following relegation.

A move back to Siena has been suggested for the striker, 31, and the Tuscan outfit are pondering a bid for him.

“We’re waiting to see what decision Siena make,” his agent Paolo Fabbri told calciomercato.it today. “They’ve asked us to wait for another couple of days.

“We hope that a deal can be done as the boy would be delighted to return to Siena. However, at the moment, there is nothing new to report.

“If a positive conclusion can’t be reached with Siena then we will look for another solution that will allow the player to show off his quality.”

Maccarone originally moved to Siena in January 2005, initially on loan, and remained with the outfit until his 2010 switch to Palermo.
