Former Middlesbrough striker Massimo Maccarone has today completed a move to Serie B side Empoli.
The 32-year-old was expected to join top-flight Siena this month, but he’s instead left Sampdoria for the Tuscan outfit.
Maccarone has already enjoyed a spell at the Stadio Castellani previously in his career between 2000 and 2002.
It was while with the minnows that he caught the eye of the Italian Under-21 side and he left Empoli for Boro in July 2002 for £8m.
Maccarone scored 26 goals in 68 games for Empoli.
His new club are fighting for survival in Serie B given that they are currently fourth from bottom in the standings.
