The veteran hitman scored twice during a 3-2 victory away to Bologna this evening, a club record fourth consecutive Serie A win.

He then celebrated by running to the stands and sipping from a glass of beer.

“They were my friends, yesterday they came to visit and we decided to have a beer together! They are Bologna fans, but friendship goes beyond football,” Big Mac told Sky Sport Italia.

“Why didn’t I go back for another sip on the second goal? I didn’t want to fail a doping test for excessive alcohol…

“This is a wonderful moment and Empoli deserve everything we’re achieving right now. This club planned brilliantly, our fans are fantastic and stay close even during difficult times, so it’s only right they get to celebrate the good times.”

Empoli are currently in sixth place and only two points behind Roma, who play Genoa tomorrow. Can they target European qualification?

“No, until we’ve achieved our objective of safety then we won’t think about anything else. I do like impossible challenges and this is certainly one of them.

“We must continue with humility, knowing we are a good team and together we can do great things.”
