Lukaku to resume training with Chelsea: How Inter players and directors reacted to transfer snub

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter director Piero Ausilio blamed Romelu Lukaku during a ‘harsh’ phone call on Friday night, while some of his ex-teammates made contact to understand why the Belgian refused to return to the Stadio Meazza.

Lukaku has effectively rejected Inter’s offer by not replying to the Nerazzurri directors, who had reached a principle of agreement with Chelsea.

Therefore, Inter informed the Blues that they were no longer interested in the 30-year-old. Lukaku will resume training with the Premier League side on Monday. However, he is expected to remain a Cobham and don’t join the team for the pre-season in the USA.

According to Sunday’s printed edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (page 2), Inter directors are furious with Lukaku. Piero Ausilio called the Belgian on Friday night in a ‘harsh’ phone call where the sporting director blamed the striker for his attitude.

Lukaku reportedly spoke to members of Inter’s ultras to ensure he’d never join Juventus, but the Bianconeri are said to be strongly interested in the Belgian.

Even some of his ex-teammates asked Lukaku why he didn’t reply to directors, suggesting he didn’t want to return. Inter players were aware that Lukaku was frustrated by some of Simone Inzaghi’s decisions in the 2022-23 campaign as the Italian tactician always started Edin Dzeko in key games, including the Champions League Final against Manchester City.

Despite that, Inter players still ‘cannot understand’ the behaviour of Lukaku who is now waiting for a formal bid from Juventus for Chelsea.
