Romelu Lukaku will have a decisive meeting with Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel today following his recent controversial interview.
The 28-year-old Belgian forward has become the talk of the town in London in recent days following the release of his interview with Sky Sports, where he clearly stated that was “unhappy with the situation” and that he dreams of returning to Inter one day in the future. The German coach decided to drop the player for yesterday’s tough match against Liverpool, which ended 2-2.
As reported by Calciomercato.com, Lukaku will meet with Tuchel today to discuss the situation and if he’ll be able to join the squad for the Carabao Cup match against Tottenham on Wednesday. At some point in the last 24 hours the player’s bio in Facebook changed to read “Inter Milan”, but it’s unknown for now whether he wrote that, if it was a mistake or if somebody ‘hacked’ the account to write it.
A return to Inter is almost impossible for the Belgian striker for the time being, with Chelsea not interested on sending their €115m investment back to the Lombardy capital on a loan deal. A move elsewhere in this month’s transfer window also seems incredibly unlikely as the Blues would want to recoup most of their investment, something that no club can afford to offer currently.
Antonio Conte would like Lukaku at Tottenham but he understands that Chelsea would never sell him to an intercity rival and a direct rival in the race for Champions League qualification, although if Harry Kane is sold next summer then a domino effect could take place.
These are decisive days for Lukaku now, with his position in London hanging in the balance. Tuchel’s usage of Kai Havertz as a false nine won the Champions League for the Blues last season and it looked fairly impressive in yesterday’s 2-2 draw with Liverpool, so now the ball is in the Belgian’s court.
