Romelu Lukaku will have to wait a little while longer to return to action for Inter after tests ruled him out of a return to squad training today.

The 29-year-old Belgian forward returned to the Nerazzurri in the summer on an €8m loan deal from Chelsea and had a good start to the season, scoring a goal and providing an assist in his first two games back at the club. Things soon took a turn south after Lukaku suffered a muscle injury, an issue that’s still bothering him almost six weeks later.

As highlighted by Calciomercato.com, Lukaku underwent a round of medical tests today and did not join the Inter squad for their training session. He’ll undergo further tests and the beginning of next week and Simone Inzaghi hopes to recover him for the match against Fiorentina on October 22.

The results are a blow to Lukaku and Inzaghi and the Belgian will want to reach full fitness ahead of the World Cup in Qatar. He has missed 10 games so far this season across all competitions.
