Romelu Lukaku looked reborn for Belgium during the international break, scoring four goals in two games and Inter will need to see more of the same at San Siro to bring him back to the club next summer.

The Belgium international scored a hat-trick in a 3-0 win over Sweden last week and netted one more in a 3-2 victory against Germany on Tuesday night.

Lukaku has only scored five goals in 19 appearances while on loan at Inter this season, struggling with injuries in the first part of the campaign.

His disappointing return to the Stadio Meazza has convinced the Nerazzurri to send the striker back to London in the summer, Beppe Marotta confirmed in March. Inter didn’t include an option to buy in the original loan deal with Chelsea in 2022.

However, this doesn’t mean Lukaku will remain in London permanently, as Inter could still decide to sit down with the Blues in July, hoping to strike a new deal and bring Lukaku back to the club for a third time.

It will entirely depend on Lukaku and what he will show at a club level in the last two months of the campaign.

The Nerazzurri still have plenty to play for having qualified for the Champions League quarter-finals and the Coppa Italia semis and being involved in the race for the top four in Serie A.

If the 29-year-old improves his level of performance at San Siro, Inter will likely try to bring him back to the club, either on loan or on a permanent transfer although the Nerazzurri have already been linked with other targets in attack, from Marcus Thuram to Roberto Firmino, available as free agents, and new Italy hero Mateo Retegui.
