Inter star Romelu Lukaku will undergo medical examinations today, but according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, he will miss Saturday’s derby della Madonnina and is in doubt for the Nerazzurri’s Champions League debut against Bayern Munich.

The Chelsea loanee suffered a thigh injury during Sunday’s training session at Appiano Gentile and won’t be available against Cremonese tomorrow.

According to Gazzetta, there are ‘99% chances’ to see Lukaku sit on the sidelines against Milan on Saturday. The Belgian wants to be there, but Inter don’t want to risk a relapse and the striker will be assessed today after a new round of medical tests.

Simone Inzaghi hopes ‘Big Rom’ will return to action before the break on September 25. If that’s the case, Lukaku may only miss games against Cremonese, Milan and, perhaps, Bayern, returning for the matches against Torino, Viktoria Plzen and Udinese.

According to La Repubblica, Lukaku could remain out of action for up to 20 days, meaning that he would miss all the remaining matches before the break.

The No.1 candidate to replace him is Edin Dzeko even if Joaquin Correa is also an option given that the Argentinean is accustomed to playing with his compatriot Lautaro Martinez.

Inter host José Mourinho’s Roma on October 2 after the break, but by that time, Lukaku will surely be back.

  1. I hope Inzaghi doesn’t try something stupid like Dzeko-Correa which never worked ever. But knowing how Inzaghi thinks like trusting Dimarco in defence that’s exactly what he’ll do.
