Romelu Lukaku was reportedly in contact with Juventus and Milan long before he took part in Inter’s Champions League final against Manchester City.

Pages 14 and 15 of today’s Gazzetta dello Sport details how the Belgian striker had been in contact with both Juventus and Milan for a while before the decisive clash in Istanbul on June 10, possibly even before the semi-final derby with the Rossoneri.

Lukaku had never developed a particularly strong relationship with Simone Inzaghi and was furious that he wasn’t given a starting spot in the Champions League final.

After their last game of the Serie A season on June 3, where he played 90 minutes, he was told that Edin Dzeko would be given the nod against Manchester City.

Two things then occurred. The first was a request from the striker for additional rest due to fatigue, and the second was a low level of intensity and focus in training in the days ahead of the clash in Istanbul.
